The March Madness college basketball tournament is one of the most popular sporting events annually held in America. Throughout this month chosen schools will face off with “one-and-done” games until the last team reign supreme and crowned victors of the national title.
Anyone who tracks these yearly match-ups knows fans go “mad” for their home teams. Normal human beings who “on the regular” are composed and well put together go berserk… nutty…wig out rooting for their favorite squad with every pop towards the hoop. In fact, I would argue we all know someone who goes bonkers with the b-ball craze wearing smelly jerseys and shed ceremonial tears over broken brackets.
And what does this “tourney” have to do with my work you ask? As fate will have it the South Carolina Gamecocks are still in the hunt for the big win in a couple of days. Across the state, thousands will be coming down with GAME-DAY Flu!!! Endless bowls of greasy cheap chips, intermittent obscene catcalls at the TV and pouty face syndrome if they lose.
South Carolinians, I offer you a safe place this year to escape the fandamonium between now and the final whistle. A FREE event for all, especially the weary supporter or the ones that simply don’t care to watch. Instead, choose to remove yourself from the off-colored banter about bad calls, stupid coaching and hotshot ball hogs.
Do something more constructive this coming week and attend a happy gathering down by the water’s edge where the only sounds you will hear are sweet notes from a piano player and a soulful singer from New York, laughter between friends and personal intuitive story-telling from yours truly.
